History

Founded as a family-based consulting engineering business, MIEngineers has grown over 30 years into one of Australia’s leading consulting engineering firms.

Following are some of the milestones that have helped shape our business:

1985

Robert and Lynda MacDonald launch Robert MacDonald & Associates.

1996

Benchmark Estimating Software created and established as a separate company.

1997

Roadworks Estimator parametric modelling software developed.

1999

Managed Motorways parametric modelling component developed for use in Benchmark Estimating Software, and successfully sold to key Road Authority client.

2004

Cost engineering becomes the firm’s dominant revenue stream for the first time.

2005

Commenced exporting estimating services to New Zealand (New Zealand Transport Agency)

Commenced exporting to the United Kingdom (UK Highways Agency)

Robert MacDonald & Associates renamed MacDonald International

Andrew Garlick becomes the first formal CEO appointed to run the business

Staff headcount grows to exceed 20 fulltime engineers and technicians for the first time in the company’s history

2006

Business exceeds $4M turnover for the first time.

2007

MacDonald International opens its first Sydney office in Parramatta to better service key cost engineering clients in Australia and overseas.

2008

Developed and delivered new structured estimating training packages for key Road Authority clients to build internal capacity.

2011

Andrew Garlick appointed as Chief Engineer.

2013

MacDonald International renamed MIEngineers and is focused as Infrastructure Cost Engineering Specialist Consulting Engineers

New Sydney HQ opens at Redfern as part of the firm’s growth strategy.

Rob MacDonald appointed as Chief Executive Officer
